YouTube co-founder Steve Chen has made a $1 million gift to his alma mater, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, to help build a $1.9 million “Innovation Hub” modeled in part after the startup collaborative workspace at the Merchandise Mart, called 1871.
Application Checklist
The following items are required to be submitted or postmarked by the application deadline of March 1st in order to apply to the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy:
- The application, including the required supporting essays and the non-refundable application fee of $75 for students who apply on-line and a non-refundable application fee of $100 for students who send in paper applications.
- A letter of evaluation from a mathematics, science, and English teacher from either the current or previous school year. A single, optional letter of evaluation of the applicant's choosing may also be submitted. These forms may be submitted electronically as part of an online application or downloaded from our website and mailed to the Admissions office.
- A letter of evaluation from the student applicant's current principal or school counselor. This form may be submitted electronically as part of an online application or downloaded from our website and mailed to the Admissions office.
- Official grade reports from the previous two school years as well as from the first semester of the current school year. There is no minimum GPA required to apply.
Official scores from the SAT test taken during the academic year in which the student is applying. There is no minimum score required to apply.
